Some people may wonder why, after 15 year of being a midwife, caring for and supporting women through labour and birth in a number of different birth settings, did I decide to leave the safety-net of the NHS...
I guess the real drive was intuition, a calling, very similar to the calling I felt to become a Midwife over 15 years ago; except now my focus had to change from intrapartum care or women. I was missing something with women and rather than try to pretend everything was ok or ignore the issue, I wanted to create a company that could search for the root cause, of challenges that seem to be on the increase after women become mothers. Things such as postnatal depression, mental illness, birth trauma, isolation, guilt and anxiety. For me, having birthed two children, and suffered with antenatal and postnatal depression, I believe that the ante-natal period and preparation for labour, birth and motherhood, is fundamental in improving women's experiences. The postnatal period is also a sacred time of healing and transitioning to motherhood, one that can be explored prior to birth, which will hopefully better prepare women and families for this massive life changing event, that is parenthood.
